Libra XT

21ft. 8in.

I will have to order this one for you because I don't stock them. but for your inconvenience I will give you $300 off. This is a double with the flexibility of a sealed center cockpit for extra passenger to limit the amount of water you would take on in a wet exit: Very! nice feature. I paddled the Libra several times with different partners. this baby can move through the water and with the water with ease. On the Mississippi with a friend who is a competitive paddler, we held 6 mph for an hour. What a hoot!

If you've always yearned for more capacity in a double with the flexibility of a center cockpit, the Libra XT is the boat for you.

The Libra XT has all the features you need for extensive touring or family outings. The large middle cockpit can accommodate a child, or carry a raft of expedition gear for the most luxurious adventure. Long and deep, the Libra XT will always give you a comfortable ride. The watertight bow and stern compartments, along with the self-contained middle compartment, offer tremendous storage capacity.

The Libra XT's efficient hull design makes it easy to paddle and provides ample stability. A unique rudder uphaul/downhaul system makes rudder use a simple matter, giving you greater control and responsiveness. The XT has proven itself with many tour operators where safety, seaworthiness, comfort, carrying capacity and quality construction are essential.

The Libra XT comes equipped with two mid-bulkheads in addition to the bow and stern bulkheads to close off the center cockpit area. If you plan to take your family out on the water the XT gives you room, safety features and quality you can have confidence in.

This model is also available in weight reducing KEVLAR composition.

Kayaks are available in several kinds of materials and with different construction methods:

Composite kayaks are made from fiberglass, kevlar and graphite in different combinations. Fiberglass, is very durable and makes a strong and economical kayak.Kevlar is lighter and very tough so less needs to be used to make a strong and very durable kayak. Graphite is even lighter than kevlar and is used in strategic locations on some models.

Plastic, Super Compound Linear Polyethylene, (SCL) is extremely tough and durable. It is used in the rotomolded models. Cuts or breaks are so rare I have never seen one, even on white water boats. UV inhibitors are blended in to protect from the sun. This is the most economical durable material Current Designs kayaks are built with. The down side is a little bit of flex and a bit more extra weight.

Thermoformed Composite System (TCS). These are made from an Acrylic and ABS plastic laminate. This plastic is stiffer and lighter than SCL polyethylene. It has the look and light weight of a fiberglass kayak, but costs less. For a more in depth description of these materials the Current Designs web site, or a catalog will help.
