Current Designs Altura 55 15ft. 0in. 31.00in. 12.00 Yellow
I like this lightweight fishing kayak the most of any, however, they aren't made anymore. I outfitted mine (this one, so it is lightly used) with a Hummingbird color, fish locater, anchor and caddy system, aerated bait tank, two extra Scotty rod holder mounts and a storage crate. This one does not have a Rudder which became standard later in the production cycle. The rear hatch is perfect for a live well. Just throw in a bag of ice and an aerator to empty the water and you have a large and very handy live well. I got a good deal on this one so I am passing it on. SAVE $700. It is really great. Very stable, reasonably fast and maneuverable. This big boat only weighs 55 pounds. This is a good one! I will sell it for less than I have in it. With its extra width and length, the Altura is super-stable, but also noticeably faster and more efficient than most SOT fishing kayaks, plus we built it in composite construction, making it significantly lighter than any comparable rotomolded model.

The Altura has two fishing rod holders on either side of the mid-deck. The aft deck has a large open well to hold just about any bait bucket or cooler. Dry storage is available just behind the seat and in the bow. Recessed paddle parks, ample bungee bow and stern, reflective safety lines and bow, stern and side carry handles are standard.

The self-bailing cockpit has a padded seat and seat back, adjustable foot brace, and a center console (with another recess for a fishing rod holder) and of course, a secure drink holder.

Kayaks are available in several kinds of materials and with different construction methods:

Composite kayaks are made from fiberglass, kevlar and graphite in different combinations. Fiberglass, is very durable and makes a strong and economical kayak. Kevlar is lighter and very tough so less needs to be used to make a strong and very durable kayak. Graphite is even lighter than kevlar and is used in strategic locations on some models.

Plastic, Super Compound Linear Polyethylene, (SCL) is extremely tough and durable. It is used in the rotomolded models. Cuts or breaks are so rare I have never seen one, even on white water boats. UV inhibitors are blended in to protect from the sun. This is the most economical durable material Current Designs kayaks are built with. The down side is a little bit of flex and a bit more extra weight.

Thermoformed Composite System (TCS). These are made from an Acrylic and ABS plastic laminate. This plastic is stiffer and lighter than SCL polyethylene. It has the look and light weight of a fiberglass kayak, but costs less. For a more in depth description of these materials the Current Designs web site, or a catalog will help.
