| The smaller sister of the Storm. This is one of the finest performing, long distance capable kayaks made by anyone and it has passed the test of time. It handles rough water easily, you can roll it easily when you want to and it is very efficient.
Along with the Storm, I believe this is one of the finest rotomolded kayaks made by anyone, period.
The Squall is scaled down for the smaller paddler or for someone wanting a slimmer, tighter fitting craft with all of the features and details of the Storm. The Squall carries enough gear for long trips and still performs well as a day tripper. At just over 22" wide and 16'6" long, this quick little polyethylene kayak is zippy and fun. The Shallow "V" hull gives a lively feel, yet a strong sense of security when leaned over on its side. The 29-1/2" long cockpit allows good contact with the boat and superb control. This fine sister ship to the Storm is appropriately named Squall (a small storm). If you want a high-performance touring kayak with extreme durability the Squall may be for you. |

Kayaks are available in several kinds of materials and with different construction methods: Composite kayaks are made from fiberglass, kevlar and graphite in different combinations. Fiberglass, is very durable and makes a strong and economical kayak. Kevlar is lighter and very tough so less needs to be used to make a strong and very durable kayak. Graphite is even lighter than kevlar and is used in strategic locations on some models. Plastic, Super Compound Linear Polyethylene, (SCL) is extremely tough and durable. It is used in the rotomolded models. Cuts or breaks are so rare I have never seen one, even on white water boats. UV inhibitors are blended in to protect from the sun. This is the most economical durable material Current Designs kayaks are built with. The down side is a little bit of flex and a bit more extra weight. Thermoformed Composite System (TCS). These are made from an Acrylic and ABS plastic laminate. This plastic is stiffer and lighter than SCL polyethylene. It has the look and light weight of a fiberglass kayak, but costs less.
